Irans Armed Forces to continue anti-terror battle: Official
Irans Armed Forces to continue anti-terror battle: Official

Iran has dismissed as a "psychological ploy" a recent statement by a number of European Union lawmakers against the Islamic Republic, saying the country's Armed Forces will not hesitate to fight Takfiri terrorists.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Wednesday that Iran's Armed Forces, including the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), would press ahead with their "relentless fight" against Takfiri and terrorist moves regardless of "ranting and raving by the sponsors of criminal terrorists."

In a statement issued on Monday, a number of EU lawmakers accused Iran of supporting terrorism and called for blacklisting of the IRGC. They also criticized the human rights situation in Iran.

"A few members of the European Parliament, who are notorious for having links to some dissident groups and the terrorist Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO), have been trying to exploit their position to put forward false claims about the human rights situation in Iran," Qassemi said.

He underlined Iran's resolve to battle "the evil scourge of terrorism" and said Tehran "will not hesitate to eradicate terrorism, insecurity and instability in the region."

Such a statement is aimed at undermining the Iran-European Union growing cooperation, which has had "very constructive and positive" outcomes for both sides in all areas, Qassemi added.

The Iranian official warned that such acts would tarnish the image of the EU and undermine its credibility, noting that Iran expected the bloc to prudently deal with efforts seeking such statements against Iran.

He also stressed that Tehran was keen to boost ties with the EU in all fields based on mutual respect.

The remarks came days after the IRGC fired six medium-range ballistic missiles at Daesh targets in Syria's eastern Dayr al-Zawr province in response to the June 7 terrorist attacks in Tehran, which killed 18 people.

The IRGC has said the missiles killed more than 170 Takfiri terrorists, including a number of commanders and senior elements, and inflicted heavy damage on their equipment and systems.
